The Bashful Baker has a reputation for the finest desserts on the south shore of Boston. But don't take our word for it – see what local food reviewers have to say! April 18, 2004: Boston Sunday Globe “Dining Out” article on the Mockingbird in East Bridgewater, written by Brenda Marchand: The Mockingbird's desserts come from the Bashful Baker. We sampled a never-before-seen spumoni cheesecake ($5.25), featuring creamy layers of cherry, pistachio, and Amaretto. It is an innovation we applaud. A dark, dense, and decadent ganache chocolate torte ($5) was airy in texture and rich in flavor, another winner. February 8, 2004: Boston Sunday Globe “Dining Out” article on the Adams Pub at Adams Inn in Quincy, written by Brenda Marchand: There is only one dessert on the menu, but it's a choice one. The chocolate fudge cake ($4.25) from Holbrook's The Bashful Baker, is the creation of Susan Hebb, former assistant pastry chef at The Bostonian Hotel. In a phone interview, Hebb referred to this sublime chocolate, three-layer sour cream cake as a tort. It is made intensely rich by an Italian butter cream and ganache interior, with more of the same dribbled on top. May 26, 2002: Boston Sunday Globe “Dining Out” article on Campagnale’s in Braintree, written by Brenda Marchand: The Bashful Baker in Holbrook provides the restaurant with a rotating selection of desserts ($4.50 each), including cakes, strawberry tarts, and the ever-popular tiramisu. Cardoza used to bake the delightful Italian confection for the restaurant, but no longer does so. " People loved it, but it was too much work," he says. The Bashful Baker's version was an outstanding sum of all its delicious parts. A tall mug of very good coffee provided the perfect final touch to our meals. August 28, 2002: Patriot Ledger “Taste & Tell” article on Café Calabria in Hull, written by Virginia Hayes: … Kimball insisted upon buying us dessert (Oh OK). The three choices for the evening, which are supplied by the Bashful Baker in HoIbrook were tiramisu, keylime cheesecake, and a rich, fudgy chocolate cake, all $5. We went with the last two, both of which were top notch. And here is a full feature article on The Bashful Baker's successful Holbrook Bakery/Cafe.
